Production engineer must have the knowledge of different operations which are performed during machining of material. Production engineer should know which machining operation is required to produce the part. Focus should be how machining process is made convenient and effective so that best result can be obtained as per requirement.  

Knowledge of various types of machines

Knowledge of various types of machines is very important for production engineer. All the machines have their own specialization and feature. So, role of production engineer is to recognize which machine is suitable for required operation. He is responsible for selection of machines as per the application of required product. Also, he must know the working of these machines. 

Manufacturing Drawing Reading Skills

Drawing plays very critical role in manufacturing of quality product. Drawing represents that how part is to be manufactured in the form of dimensions, tolerances, notes etc... So, Production engineer must have understanding of all these parameters. He should know the tolerance range, various drawing symbols so that he can manufacure the right product under his supervision.  

Knowledge of different Cutting tools

To perform different machining operations on a part which is to be manufactured, different cutting tools are used. Every tool has its own capabilities and feature to cut the different material. These cutting tools are available in market with standard sizes and range. So, a production engineer must be awared of standard sizes of these tools and applications so that right tool can be selected for right material.

TMMEs working knowledge

Manufacture quality product is one of the prime responsibiliies of production engineer. This can be achived by maintaining the machining values which are mentioned on drawing. So, to ensure these values one must know the right usage of TMMEs instrument so that manufactured product can be reviewed during manufacturing stage.

General Topics knowledge

Every corner has chance of improvement. Improvement is never ending process. It also makes process / system more stringent. So, a production engineer should have knowledge of general production improvement related topics like 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke etc.. By the help of these tools, improvement in production process can be attain and sustain.
